Evergreen Action Launches Holiday Ad Campaign Targeting Trump’s Big Coal Bailout

Ads highlight how Trump’s expensive bailout of the dying coal industry will worsen the affordability crisis this holiday season

Today, Evergreen Action launched a new holiday ad campaign pushing back against the Trump administration’s pro-coal, anti-consumer agenda. This includes the administration’s recent $625 million bailout of the coal industry and its ongoing orders forcing ordinary utility customers to pay tens of millions of dollars to keep outdated, polluting, and uneconomic coal plants on life support past their retirement dates. The campaign highlights the high costs of Trump’s Big Coal Bailout for consumers and the damaging impacts of coal on families this holiday season and into the new year.

Right now, millions of Americans are unable to afford their electricity bills. At the same time, power demand is surging, driven in part by unchecked data center growth, which is pushing consumer rates even higher. Experts have demonstrated that renewable energy, like wind, solar, and battery storage, is a clean and cheap solution for our energy needs. But the Trump administration is responding to skyrocketing energy bills by bailing out a dying industry at the expense of taxpayers and American families.

“President Trump would rather bail out his fossil fuel donors than make sure Americans can afford to stay warm and keep the lights on this winter,” said Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt. “Families already struggling under the weight of tariffs and high energy prices will be forced to pay extra to keep old, polluting coal plants on life support.”

The campaign will run through the Christmas holiday and reach consumers across the U.S., including Washington D.C., Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, where Trump’s Department of Energy has kept the J.H. Campbell coal plant running nearly seven months past its planned closure date at a cost to consumers of over $600,000 a day
