In response to the news that Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers will not seek re-election for a third term, Evergreen Action Deputy Director for the Midwest Region Courtney Brady released the following statement:
“Governor Evers proved that clean energy leadership is both possible and popular in Wisconsin. He delivered the state’s first-ever clean energy plan, launched the Wisconsin Green Innovation Fund, and defended democracy by securing fair legislative maps. His leadership opened new doors to cut climate pollution, lower energy bills, and bring clean energy jobs to communities across the state. He also brought that same leadership to the national stage as the first Midwest governor to co-chair the U.S. Climate Alliance.
“Thanks to Governor Evers, Wisconsin is on the path to a stronger, more sustainable economy. But there’s still more work to do. The next governor will have both the opportunity and the responsibility to carry forward Evers’ clean energy vision and ensure that every community shares in its benefits. His legacy serves as a foundation to build upon.”
