Evergreen Statement in Response to Heritage Foundation’s Kevin Roberts Defense of Trump’s Project 2025 Assault on Climate Progress

In response to comments from the Heritage Foundation’s Kevin Roberts, the architect of Donald Trump’s Project 2025, at the New York Times Climate Forward event, Evergreen Action Senior Vice President Craig Segall released the following statement:

“Asking Kevin Roberts to speak at a climate conference is like asking an arsonist to speak to firefighters. It’s kind of helpful to get an advance warning of what Roberts is planning, but those plans are terrible. He can’t wait for Donald Trump to implement his Project 2025, but the rest of us would face excess deaths, billions in economic losses, and a declining country. This is a guy who calls the hottest year in all of human history a one-off ‘hot year’ and would repurpose the government to serve Big Oil and right-wing attacks on ordinary people. No thanks.

“Trump’s Project 2025 isn’t just a policy blueprint—it’s a full-scale attack on decades of hard-won climate progress. The result would be more drilling, more climate pollution, and more damage to public health and the planet—all while climate-fueled disasters escalate around us. Trump’s Project 2025 would take us back to a time when corrupt polluters ran the show, costing Americans nearly 2 million jobs and more than $30 billion in household energy costs while unnecessarily putting lives at risk from the worsening impact of climate change. This November, we have a clear choice: continue building on our clean energy future that strengthens our economy and secures a livable future or let Big Oil interests dictate our downfall.”

Evergreen recently wrote about how new modeling from nonpartisan group Energy Innovation reveals the ways we can build on the Inflation Reduction Act to save lives and create jobs, compared to the extremist Project 2025 plan to dismantle the climate law and drag us decades backward.
