Evergreen Statement on EPA Effort to Strike Down Endangerment Finding

In response to reporting that Donald Trump’s EPA is proposing to overturn the landmark climate finding known as the “endangerment finding”, which has served as the backbone of many common-sense EPA regulations protecting the American public from pollution, Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt released the following statement:

“Donald Trump and Lee Zeldin have shown us once again that they are willing to let Americans die so polluters can get a free pass to poison our communities and accelerate climate change. Trump’s EPA has not only abandoned its mission to protect human health, they are now attempting to butcher the Clean Air Act by lying to the American people about the deadly threat posed by climate change. In a year when hundreds of Americans have already lost their lives to floods, fires, and heat waves made more intense and more frequent by climate change, it is cruel and absurd to dismantle the legal backbone of one of our best tools to address this crisis.

“The American people know that climate change is a threat to public health and welfare–not just because the science has been clear for decades, but because they can see it with their own eyes. This move won’t hold up in court, but in the months or years it takes to work through the legal process, corporate polluters will be able to inflict irreversible damage that the rest of us will be paying for for years to come.”
