Evergreen: Billions for Billionaires, Deep Cuts to Clean Energy and Health Care for Everyone Else

Today, the House Energy & Commerce Committee released draft legislative text for its portion of the Republicans’ sweeping spending plan to fund a multi-trillion-dollar tax giveaway for billionaires and big corporations. The bill would make deep cuts to vital programs that people depend on, from Medicaid to clean energy investments. In total, Republicans are proposing to cut billions of dollars in funding for critical clean energy and environmental justice programs that are lowering costs, cutting pollution, and driving economic growth across the country. In response, Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt released the following statement:

“Republicans are once again siding with corporate polluters and billionaires over working families. Their proposal guts investments that are cutting energy costs, powering a domestic manufacturing boom, and delivering essential health care to the communities that need it most. These shameful cuts would inflict real harm, making it harder for vulnerable Americans to afford the care they need while driving up utility bills and putting good-paying jobs at risk.

“Under Trump’s direction, Republicans are charging ahead with a reckless assault on the progress we’ve made in deploying cheaper, cleaner energy. Their attack on Clean Air Act pollution standards would mean more smog in our streets while Americans pay more at the pump. Slashing the Environmental Justice Block Grants Program would force low-income communities to pay more for dirtier energy. Americans overwhelmingly support these investments. But instead of listening, Republicans are sacrificing clean energy on the altar of Big Oil to bankroll another round of tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy."
