Today, Vice President JD Vance traveled to Michigan and told residents skyrocketing energy prices resulting from Trump’s illegal war would fall “because that's what the president promised to do.” Meanwhile, Michigan drivers are paying an average of $3.87 per gallon, up 33 percent from $2.92 per gallon just one month ago. In response, Evergreen Action State Advocacy Director Courtney Brady released the following statement:

"Another day, another promise that energy prices will come back down on some vague future date. This time it came from JD Vance in Michigan, where gas prices have surged 33 percent in a month because of Trump's illegal war. Trump has made promises like this before. He pledged nearly 50 times to cut energy prices in half within his first year in office. He didn’t. Electricity prices are up more than 7 percent year over year, and the average household paid $537 more for electricity last year than Trump promised they would. Every one of those promises was a lie, and Vance just asked Michigan families to go back to that well one more time. 

“And here’s the thing: the one path to stable energy prices that don’t spike every time a war breaks out is cheap, homegrown clean energy. But the same administration now asking for your trust is actively trying to bulldoze that path. Trump has spent the past year attacking wind and solar, resulting in 23 clean energy projects in Michigan being canceled or delayed and nearly $1.2 billion in lost investments that could have insulated residents from the volatile global energy markets now hammering their wallets. He has broken every promise he’s ever made on energy costs, torched the investments that could have put more cheap clean energy on the grid, and made us more dependent on the fossil fuels that are driving up costs even more as a result of his reckless war. Why would anyone believe this promise when Trump hasn’t kept a single one of the others?”
