Trump in New Mexico: It Will Be An “Honor” to “Immediately Terminate” the Inflation Reduction Act

In response to Donald Trump once again pledging to “immediately terminate” the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) at a campaign stop in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt released the following statement:

“Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Albuquerque made it clear he’s more committed than ever to dragging America backward on clean energy progress. Calling it an ‘honor’ to ‘terminate’ the Inflation Reduction Act on Day One, Trump revealed just how out of touch he is with the economic benefits and prosperity the IRA is bringing to states like my home state of New Mexico. Thanks to the Biden-Harris administration’s historic climate law, nearly $3 billion of investments have already poured into New Mexico alone, creating nearly 17,000 new jobs and enabling companies like Array Technologies and Arcosa to expand cheaper solar and wind manufacturing, generating good-paying, local jobs.

“The Land of Enchantment ranks sixth nationally for clean energy job growth and first in energy efficiency job growth, proving that the IRA is far from ‘the greatest scam in the history of any country’—it’s a massive success story. But Trump’s pledge to gut the IRA under his Project 2025 agenda would erase these gains in New Mexico and across the nation, clawing back investments that are reducing household energy costs, revitalizing communities, and strengthening America’s clean energy leadership. Our communities deserve better than an agenda that will hand our future back to Big Oil, costing nearly 2 million jobs, more than $30 billion in energy costs, and, for many, their lives."

Earlier this year, Evergreen wrote about how new modeling from the nonpartisan group Energy Innovation reveals how we can build on the Inflation Reduction Act to save lives and create jobs, compared to the extremist Project 2025 plan to dismantle the climate law, drag us decades backward, and drive up energy costs.
