On Friday, the Trump administration forced a nearly completed wind farm off the coast of Rhode Island and Connecticut with all the necessary permits secured to stop construction for unspecified “concerns.” Today, Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee and Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont are blasting the decision and demanding that Trump allow work to resume. In response, Evergreen Action Executive Director Lena Moffitt released the following statement:
“This is Trump’s energy price hike in action: deliberate sabotage to strangle cheap, reliable clean energy so fossil fuel executives can keep raking in profits. Electricity prices are already up 10% this year. Now, Trump is forcing a fully permitted, nearly complete clean energy project—one that could save customers up to $1.7 billion each year—to halt construction. Blocking affordable power for hundreds of thousands of homes and fueling the climate crisis is not about energy policy or lowering prices. It’s pure corruption.
“Every move Trump makes is about shielding corporate polluters and making working people foot the bill. He’s rigging the system against the American people at the very moment we need more affordable, abundant clean energy—and leaving working-class Americans with soaring costs. We applaud Gov. McKee and Gov. Lamont for fighting for affordable, clean energy and demanding Trump end this blatant political meddling.”
Evergreen Action has been detailing the key actions Trump has taken since his first day in office that are driving up energy prices and what they mean for everyday Americans’ wallets. You can find our ongoing analysis here.
